Quilts for Kids Project

Quilts for Kids Project

Last year, I discovered a quilting charity organization called Quilts for Kids and I’ve had a lot of fun making a few quilts for them.  To quote myself from last year:

Their mission is all about: “Volunteer Quilters Transforming Fabrics Into Patchwork Quilts that Comfort Children In Need.”  Sounds pretty great, doesn’t it?  They send quilts to those in need all over the world, partnering with hospitals, local governments, and global outreach groups.

It’s so super easy for make a quilt.  All you have to do is go to their website, and either make a quilt per their specifications with fabrics from your stash or order a free kit.  You just need to pay $6 for shipping costs to have the kit sent to you.  This time, I ordered a kit and it comes with fabric for the top and backing along with a pattern.  The only thing you need to supply is the batting and thread.

A lot of the pieces, particularly strips come precut which makes the construction go super quickly. I was send some adorable girly prints from Michael Miller’s Children at Play collection.  Special thanks to Kitty who helped me figure out what line the fabrics came from!

The focus squares came precut, and my OCD wanted to let me alternate white and pink squares, but unfortunately, there didn’t seem to be any logical layout that I could do with the squares I had.  I tried to remind myself that some little girl is hopefully going to love this quilt regardless of my fabric placement!

I started the project last night, and it only took me a few hours to complete the top.  Now to think about how I want to quilt it…any ideas?

I hope you’re all having a wonderful week.  Happy quilting, friends!
