Stars and Stripes: Patriotic Lap Quilt

Stars and Stripes: Patriotic Lap Quilt

This is the last of the four quilts I brought home for Memorial Day – A mother’s day gift for my Mother-in-Law, Kim.  After pouring over lots of patterns and pictures, I decided upon a very modern patriotic quilt.

Stars and Stripes

Here she is with her new quilt! It turned out to be pretty large so it’s folded in half here 🙂

Kim with her Stars and Stripes Quilt

The stripes are made with a batik jelly roll (Bali Pops by Hoffman Fabrics) and the background is Kona snow.  I’m not usually a big fan of batiks but I really enjoyed working with these.  Unlike some of the batiks that I have used in the past, these weren’t thicker than normal cotton broadcloth. I love the variety!

Stars and Stripes

I quilted it with an all over stipple with Aurifil 50wt thread.

Stars and Stripes

I love the way quilts made with cotton batting look when they’re washed and dried.  Crinkly and cuddly <3

Stars and Stripes

Kim has it on a bed in her home.  Looks great!
