Modern Building Blocks Quilt: Blocks 9-18

Modern Building Blocks Quilt: Blocks 9-18

My apologies for the radio silence on the blog the past two weeks!  We’ve been out and about enjoying the beautiful cherry blossoms in Japan. They haven’t quite hit full bloom here but they are still gorgeous.  I definitely need to start taking some pictures but I’m afraid my iPhone photography skills won’t do them justice!

The other reason I’ve been a bit preoccupied is because our shipment of household goods has arrived!  Yay for stuff! A team of Japanese movers came to our house bright and early Friday morning to remove our rental furniture.  They parked the truck, broke down and loaded 3 rooms worth of furniture, signed paperwork and were pulling away in 9 minutes flat. Whoa. They were literally running from the truck into our house.

Then our shipment arrived, stored tetris style in a few crates.  The movers had everything unloaded and furniture reassembled in our house in only a few hours. We Americans sure have something to learn from Japanese work ethic.  I was so impressed with their speed and care for our belongings even though we definitely had a language barrier.  At least I got to learn the Japanese words for some of the different rooms in the house!

Stuff arriving in Japan!

Needless to say, we’ve been buried in boxes for the last week, but the end is in sight.  I didn’t let myself set up my quilting space until everything else was mostly put together.  Its almost done so I’m hoping to get back to quilting soon!

Before the movers came, I did make progress on the Moda Modern Building Blocks Quilt.  Thankfully, I haven’t found any more errors.

Block 9: A little neutral block to balance out all the brightness

Block 10: This is one of my favorites – I totally dig those colors!

Block 11: Easy strip piecing. The pattern suggested stay-stitching the bias edges. I’ve never done that – have you? Do you find it helpful?

Block 12: Can’t go wrong with HSTs and Flying Geese.

Block 16: Easy block, even though I’m not a fan of the piecing together triangles method.

Next up:  Thirty 6″ Blocks.  I mayyyyy have already done some of them and gotten behind on blogging.  I’ll share them with you soon!  I’m so appreciative of the space I have here to set up my own quilting room complete with a giant design wall.  Having no kids, we were opted for a 2 bedroom house, but the base happened to not have any more available so we got a 3 bedroom house.  Yay for having a quilting room! I did try to convince the hubby that one room should be for a long arm but that was a no-go. Don’t worry – I’ll keep nagging! 😉
