Modern Building Blocks Quilt – Blocks 19-48

Modern Building Blocks Quilt – Blocks 19-48

You guys!  I finished all 48 blocks of Moda’s Modern Building Blocks Quilt!

These last 30 blocks are all 6″ finished and boy do they feel tiny after making those 36″ versions. Rather than show you 30 different pictures (I mean really, who wants to scroll through that many), I’ve grouped the blocks together. This first group is from blocks 19-27.

Each one of those little HSTs finished at one inch – yikes.  So much for perfect points here.

Look how small these little flying geese are!  They’re 1″ x 2″ finished. Each block is made by sewing triangles together, and doesn’t allow for any trimming.  I suppose I could have recalculated everything…but really?  That would take forever.  I did my best to piece all the bias edges as carefully as I could, and then trimmed off all of the dog ears.  That helped me keep everything as accurate as possible.

Here are blocks 28-36.  There are so many seams in each one, they don’t even want to stay on my design wall!

In order to keep all those little non-trimable HSTs in line while I was stitching, I pressed open my seams and trimmed off dog ears.  If you’re making this quilt, I highly recommend doing the same!

Last but not least, here are the last twelve blocks, 37-48. Modern Building Blocks #37-#48

I know that they’re not all perfect, but I’m still happy with the way these little blocks turned out.

Maybe I’ll get them all laid out on my design wall today!

I’ve started to think about the quilting on this one.  I’ve seen some beautiful straight line custom quilting, as well as vertical straight line quilting through the whole thing.  Any thoughts on what I should do?!?

Oh!  And if you love shopping for quilt supplies like I do, Craftsy is having some FAB sales this weekend.  I saw they have great deals on kits from some of my favorite designers including Jaybird Quilt’s Gravity Quilt and Elizabeth Hartman’s Pointy Quilt.  I also spied some Cotton and Steel for sale.  Such temptations!
