Modern Building Blocks Quilt – A Finished Top!

Modern Building Blocks Quilt – A Finished Top!

All 48 blocks of Moda’s Modern Building Blocks Quilt have been put into place!  I’m totally crushing on this quilt – it’s definitely one of my favorites.  Despite the complications I think it was worth each and every hour.

I am extra thankful today because my extremely talented friend, Erica, offered to use her photography skills to help me photograph this beast.  This monstrosity is much to large for one person to hold and photograph.  Plus, her fancy-pants camera and skills really shows off the colors. I am blessed with so many wonderful people surrounding me here in Japan!

Don’t you just love the colors?  I have a decent amount of extra fabric from the kit too so I can foresee many more quilts in these solids.

The wind wasn’t really on our side when we were trying to take pictures, but we were able to get a few shots on the play set by my house. I even had a little helper hiding behind the quilt with me!

After blowing in the wind for a while, the quilt did get a little wrinkly, but I’m glad we were able to get a shot of all the blocks.  My favorite is still the large blue one in the upper left corner (below).

Moda's Modern Building BlocksI haven’t decided on a backing fabric yet.  I was thinking of doing a black and white print from the new cotton and steel collection, because I really want an excuse to use them.  However, I think that will depend on what kind of quilting I chose, especially if I choose to change thread colors.

I did want to quilt this one myself, but I think it may be entirely too big for my machine.  My plan is to lay it all out, complete with batting and backing this week to get a better idea of how difficult it would be to quilt on my domestic.  Otherwise, I’ll be sending it off to be quilted!

In the mean time, I think I might remake a few of these blocs for my NICU quilt project.

I hope you’re all preparing for a wonderful weekend!

P.S.  My new obsession for fabric/notions shipping is Massdrop. It’s a bulk ordering site that allows purchasers to get discounted prices on select products.  Their quilting selection seems to grow daily and they are so many excellent deals.  I highly recommend checking it out!  I recently purchased a few quilting themed T-shirts for a steal!
