I thought keeping up with one small quilt a month would be easy – boy was I wrong! I’m doing my best to keep up with every month’s Moda Frivol quilt but I’m a few weeks behind.  Without further ado, here is Frivol 3: Heritage.

Its made from Eliza’s Indigo fabric collection for Moda by Betsy Chutchian filled with paisleys, florals and grids.

I started by cutting 168 squares and subcutting 126 of those into triangles.  Talk about a lot of cutting for such a small quilt (finishing 28″ x 32″).  Can you believe they even gave instructions for using the same amount of fabric to make a mini quilt that included 378 tiny squares?!  No thank you.

The construction was very easy but way too repetitive since the blocks are made oversized and I had to trim after every step.  I think this would have been a better project if I had a friend to do it with!

I used some tan aurifil to stipple the quilt.  I do love working with Aurifil thread – I wish I had a great selection of it!

I backed the quilt in a paisley from the collection and bound it in a navy blue solid.

Of course, we’re continuing to enjoy all that Japan has to offer.  Our latest adventure was catching some salmon with our bare hands!  Every year, there’s a salmon festival not far from where we live where the locals release hundreds of salmon into a large shallow pool. We rented boots and gloves, and at the countdown ran into the pool with about 50 other people trying to snatch a fish.  After a few tries, my friend and I caught dinner!  Thankfully, they had someone on site to filet the fish for us.  I can’t wait to try again next year!

I hope you are all enjoying the beginning of this advent season.  We certainly are!
