Dog Gone Cute

Dog Gone Cute

Hello and welcome to my part of Lorna’s  (Sew Fresh Quilts) Dog Gone Cute Blog Hop!  If this is your first time here I want to give a warm and hearty welcome and invite you to look around. To give you the one sentence “about me,” I’m a military spouse living in Japan who enjoys making modern quilts in my free time.

Lorna has designed some adorable quilts, many of which are still on my “to make” wish list but when I saw her Dog Gone Cute quilt, I knew I had to participate right away! I’m definitely a dog lover, as evidenced by how spoiled my two little furmen are.

Without further ado… Here is my version of the mini Dog Gone Cute quilt:

Dog Gone Cute

I decided that I wanted to make my quilted pups to be in whimsical colors and that I wanted to make it all from my stash.

I had a little bit of trouble focusing my color scheme, and after rethinking the scrappy background in favor of a solid gray (more details HERE), I started cranking out the blocks.

Dog Gone Cute Block 1 I picked out four fat quarters: one pink, one purple and two white for their faces and I had plenty of fabric for the mini quilt. I couldn’t help but pair the little strawberry print with the pink accent color!

I used a light pink spotted fabric for the inside of the ears and the binding.  I used every last inch of my fat quarter and made it work! I was also very particular about the orientation of the dots in the ears.  I’m definitely a type A person!

I backed it with some leftover fabric I had in my stash from the backing of the Butterfly Quilt. I’m glad there was enough – I love this print!

Dog Gone CuteEinstein wasn’t very happy that the pups didn’t resemble him. Ha! Dog Gone Cute

I really enjoyed making this quilt, and I’m sure there will be more of Lorna’s quilt patterns in my future.   Dog Gone Cute
