Bridal Shower Quilt

Everybody is getting married and I love it!  All the beautiful dresses, colors, flowers, decorations…

and quilts!
A friend of mine is getting married this summer and because many of her family and friends no longer live at home due to college or their post-college lives, her bridal shower was nicely scheduled between Christmas and New Years so that we could all celebrate with her!  In addition to giving her a traditional shower gift, my mom and I decided to put our heads together and come up with something unique that she could cherish for years.  Adapting an idea we saw on pinterest, we made a little quilt that each guest at the bridal shower could sign. Isn’t it cute?

We spoke to her florist, who happened to also do the flowers for my wedding and does AMAZING work (http://dorisfloralflair.com/) and she helped us pick out the correct fabrics to match this lovely bride’s wedding theme.  We cut a center piece (18.5″ square) and 6.5″ squares to go around it.  Can you see how the pink fabrics make a heart.  Shout out to my mom for such a great idea!
Everything was coming together so nicely, and we brought the front of the quilt to the shower for each guest to sign with fabric markers.  The bride-to-be absolutely loved it and and I couldn’t have been happier with her reaction. Unfortunately, not everything was rainbows and butterflies because one of the little kiddos got ahold of a marker and decided to start doodling. Yikes!

My first thought was that this wouldn’t be a problem because the markers need to be heat set in order to be permanent.  I was so very wrong.  I tried, scrubbing, soaking, covering up, oxi-clean – you name it, I tried it and it didn’t work.  So what to do?
My current thoughts on the project:
1. Leave as it
2. Replace the center square and try to recreate the signatures
3. Remove the center square and make it into a pillow and then fill the center with something new.
I made a valentines day quilt last year and I was thinking I could steal the idea of a heart made of smaller hearts and fill the center of the quilt with that design.  What do you think?

I hope you are having a superb Wednesday!
Happy quilting!
